LX Factory is an obligatory spot on the map of Lisbon for all creative souls - artists, young entrepreneurs, digital nomads, freelancers, remote workers and others.
If you are looking for an innovative and unusual environment to work, learn or just meet other positive minds - that's a great spot to visit while in Lisbon!
In the few recent articles, I’ve written about a very popular nowadays idea of reorganizing old, industrial areas into modern and vibrant spaces. In Barcelona, there is, for instance, Palo Alto - a large complex of old, industrial buildings currently used by entrepreneurs and companies to create their offices in renovated spaces of former factories. The owners call it “an urban island” to highlight the significant meaning of putting the former factory grounds to people’s use. From Monday to Friday you can find there different teams of workers in their offices or in a huge garden. During the weekends, there is held one of the most recognizable street markets in the city, Palo Alto Market. Another worth to mentioned example of this process is the Nau Bostik area - this zone hasn’t been renewed so far, but it’s efficiently used to organize different social events in the industrial environment.
About LX Factory
According to the LX Factory’s website, from the second half of XIX century, in Alcântara, Lisbon, the complex of fabrics has been increasingly developed and occupied by manufacturing companies from Lisbon and other countries. Nowadays, this huge industrial area - in total its size is more than 23.000 m2 - is intended for public use. The owners have decided to revamp the old buildings and show the whole district as a very modern, energetic and artistic spot - the first of its kind in Lisbon.
As a result, in the old fabrics, there are many headquarters of companies from different areas - from publicity, communication, and architecture to art, fashion or music. Restaurants, coffee shops or beer gardens can be found in the area with workshops, exhibitions or performances held on a regular basis.
Digital nomads paradise
As a digital nomad, you can spend in LX Factory long hours sitting in the cafes, sunny gardens or in the coworking space. Almost every place offers a good internet connection and friendly, creative vibes.
Need a break after a few hours of work? Go for a walk through the industrial area of LX Factory. On the walls of fabrics and buildings, you can notice many great examples of the Lisbon street art scene.
Friends and families get together
LX Factory organizes events for young creatives and families with children. Concerts, street art performances, workshops - almost everything what is needed to spend a day in a friendly and inspiring atmosphere.
Productive social spaces
The idea of transforming old factories into modern, lively spaces for people is very successful in Lisbon. Personally, I was very inspired by LX Factory - especially because it was a first place that I’ve seen so far that seems to be a small creative neighborhood with a wide offer for everyone - not only for businesses and not only during the weekends. LX Factory offers a day-to-day opportunity to work in a very inspiring environment, meet new people, collaborate with each other and motivate others to change! What kind of change? A change in the way of thinking about public space management, ways of spending free time or work environment types.
