On the 11th of November 2015, in Centro de Cultura Contemporánea (CCCB) in Barcelona was held the official inauguration of the exhibition of World Press Photo 2015.
World Press Photo is the world’s leading, annual contest for professional photographers and photojournalist. Each year the international jury select the strongest images of the year which present valuable insights about society – from worldwide conflict or natural disasters to daily lives of people, sport or wildlife.
In this year’s edition of World Press Photo, there were entered more than 97 000 images. The international jury had to select the most impressive photos in 8 different categories. The main prize went to Mads Nissen from Denmark. Photographer received the first prize for a photography of homosexual couples living in St. Petersburg in Russia.
During the official inauguration of World Press Photo 15 exhibition in Barcelona, there were present three of the photographers awarded this year: Mads Nissen, Carlos Spottorno, and Gianfranco Tripodo. Each of photographer had a chance to share the story connected with a winning image. Mads Nissen talked about the situation of homosexual people living in Russia. Carlos Spottorno and Gianfranco Tripodo had a speech about their photographs showing migration crisis in Europe.
All the prize-winning pictures are presenting in an exhibition which travels to 45 countries. Fundación Photographic Social Vision organizes the exhibition in Barcelona. It will last from 12th of November till 13th of December in Centro de Cultura Contemporánea (CCCB) in Barcelona. During the exhibition, there will be held regular meetings with photographers, workshops, and conferences.
The World Press Photo contest began in 1955. It’s one of the most important events for photographers from all around the world. The winning pictures show unique moments that happened over a year. The moments that had an impact on people’s lives and will stay in history.
